elena is a 30-year-old digital artist and painter from Finland, currently living in Amsterdam.

all of elena’s digital work is created on Procreate on her iPad.

her art has an intentional focus on womxn, while having an endless desire to keep exploring other topics and styles. her current body of work centers around three series; a series of intimate portraits inspecting femininity, a continuous exploration of the abstract, and various floating islands themed around popular culture.

on her ‘heavenly’ series ;

“I love pursuing realism, and I’m fascinated by people, emotions and the concept of beauty, and portraits are the perfect vehicle for this. ‘heavenly’ is a series that attempts to interrogate ‘femininity’ as both a personal experience and a concept, as well as the expectations embedded in it - most notably beauty (in the very constricted gender normative sense), and the expectation of its pursuance.

it took me a long time to understand what my kind of femininity is, being comfortable and feeling good in it, and it's a relationship I may be exploring infinitely. my teenage years were an uncomfortable try on – there seemed to be one way for women to be viewed as attractive, which we are expected to aspire to. yet it was also made clear that were we, was I, to be attacked, this femininity would be the cause of it. what i’ve mostly struggled with is separating my will from society’s.

in this series I'm exploring and deconstructing what (my) femininity means to me within such a world.”

she draws inspiration from her surroundings, music, fashion, nostalgia, Finnish design and nature - especially clouds. her work is simultaneously rich with details while maintaining a minimalistic and calming atmosphere.

in her latest project, elena designed and created the cover art for the Rotterdam based DJ and producer S!RENE’s new Ep ‘Tales of Lusan’, which was officially released in January 2023.
